Frequently Asked Questions

Straightforward answers to common questions about my services and how I can help with your project.

Not sure where to start?

From brick matching and product sourcing to technical drawings and vehicle tracking, you’ll find answers to some of the questions I’m asked most often.

Masonry advice and product sourcing

What products can you help me source?

I can help source facing bricks, brick slips, special shaped bricks, cast and natural stone, roof, wall and floor tiles, slate, timber cladding and modern methods of construction (MMC) products from manufacturers and suppliers across the UK and Europe.

Do you only work with architects?

No. I work with architects, contractors, developers, project managers, interior designers and private clients, depending on the project and the support required.

Can you help if a product has already been specified?

Yes. If the product has already been specified and registered with the manufacturer, I won't be able to improve on the registered price. However, I can look at suitable alternatives and arrange samples, pricing and sourcing if the specified product is unavailable or causing problems.

Can you help at the early design stage?

Yes, I prefer to! Early collaboration can be particularly useful. By getting involved before the specification becomes fixed, I can help you explore suitable products, finishes, options to suit the project budget, and practical construction solutions.

Can you help prevent products being substituted later in the project?

Yes. I can help assess availability, cost, lead times and buildability at an early stage, which can reduce the risk of specification changes or value engineering later.

Do you supply the materials yourself?

No. I work with a network of manufacturers and suppliers to help source the right products and secure competitive pricing. Depending on the project, materials can be supplied directly through the appropriate supplier rather than purchased from Peak Project Solutions.

Brick matching

Can you match an existing brick?

Yes. I can help identify the closest available match by considering more than just colour - including size, texture, manufacturing method, variation and overall character.

Can you match old or discontinued bricks?

Yes. I can help track down discontinued and hard-to-find bricks, or find the closest alternative from UK and European manufacturers if the original is no longer available.

Do you match imperial bricks?

Yes. I can source both metric and imperial brick sizes, including bricks for older properties, extensions and heritage projects.

Do you provide samples?

Yes. Where suitable options are available, I can arrange samples free of charge so they can be compared with the existing brickwork before an order is placed.

How much does the brick matching service cost?

It's just a £50 deposit for the brick matching service. This is deducted from the cost of the bricks if an order is subsequently placed.

What if there isn't an exact match?

An exact match isn't always possible, particularly with older or weathered brickwork. I'll explain the closest options and, where appropriate, tinting may also be considered to help new brickwork blend with the existing building.

Masonry repairs and tinting

What types of masonry can be repaired or tinted?

Specialist repairs and tinting can be carried out to brick, stone and mortar, depending on the condition of the existing masonry and the problem that needs correcting.

When would brick tinting be used?

Tinting can be useful where new bricks don't blend with existing brickwork, replacement bricks vary in colour, repairs are visually obvious or areas of a façade need to be brought closer together in appearance.

Is tinting the same as painting bricks?

No. Brick and mortar tinting isn't paint. It alters the appearance and colour of the masonry while retaining its natural character. A specially mixed tinting solution containing coloured dyes is absorbed into the surface rather than forming a painted layer, and can be blended to match the surrounding brickwork and mortar.

Can you help with listed or historic buildings?

Yes. I can help investigate suitable repair, matching and tinting solutions for historic and listed buildings, although the appropriate approach will depend on the building and any conservation requirements.

CPD sessions for architects

Who are your CPD sessions for?

The sessions are primarily designed for architects and architectural technicians, although they can also be useful for other construction professionals who want a better practical understanding of masonry and façade products.

What topics do you cover?

Topics include brick basics, heritage masonry and tinting, practical wall construction and buildability, modern methods of construction and off-site solutions, and net zero, sustainability and low-carbon products within the brick and masonry industry.

Are the sessions practical or product-led?

The emphasis is on practical knowledge and real construction issues rather than promoting a particular manufacturer or product.

Can a CPD session be tailored to our practice?

Yes. If there is a particular subject or recurring specification issue your team would like to understand better, we can discuss the most useful content beforehand.

Can you deliver CPDs at our office?

Yes. Sessions can be arranged for architectural practices and construction teams. Get in touch to discuss your location, team and requirements.

Will attendees receive a certificate?

Yes.A certificate of attendance can be provided for attendees to keep with their CPD records.

Swept path analysis

What is a swept path analysis?

Swept path analysis shows the space a vehicle needs to manoeuvre within a site or through an access point. It can demonstrate whether a particular vehicle can enter, turn, reverse, travel or exit within the available space.

When might I need a swept path analysis?

It is commonly used for planning applications, residential developments, driveways, car parks, construction logistics and assessing access for delivery, service or emergency vehicles.

What information do you need from me?

Ideally, I'll need an accurate site plan or layout drawing in a suitable digital format, together with details of the vehicle or type of vehicle that needs to access the site.

What if I don't know exactly which vehicle to use?

That's not necessarily a problem. I can assess suitable vehicle types and, where appropriate, test different sizes to establish what can realistically manoeuvre within the available space.

Can you track construction and delivery vehicles?

Yes. This can include a range of HGVs and other construction or delivery vehicles where access and manoeuvring space need to be demonstrated.

Can swept path analysis guarantee planning approval?

No. The drawings can provide supporting information for a planning application, but the final decision remains with the relevant planning authority.

3D technical drawings

What can you produce 3D technical drawings for?

I can produce 3D drawings and visualisations for products, components and construction details where it is useful to understand how elements fit together or how a proposed solution will look.

Why use a 3D drawing rather than a 2D drawing?

3D drawings make it much easier to see how something will actually look and how the different parts fit together. They can also help spot potential problems before anything is manufactured or installed.

Can you work from sketches or existing drawings?

Yes. Depending on the project, I can work from existing drawings, dimensions, sketches and other technical information to develop the 3D model.

How can 3D drawings help with a project?

3D drawings can be used to visualise how a project will look before it's built, as well as showing how individual components and details fit together. They can also help spot potential problems before anything is manufactured or installed.

Do you only produce drawings for projects you are working on?

No. I can provide 3D technical drawings as a standalone service, whether it's to help visualise a project, produce drawings for a specific product or component, or create rendered images from an existing 3D model.

Working with Peak Project Solutions

Where are you based?

Peak Project Solutions is based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, and I work on projects across the UK.

Can you visit my project?

Yes, where a site visit would be useful. This will depend on the location and the type of support required.

Can I contact you if I'm not sure which service I need?

Of course. Many enquiries don't fit neatly into one service. Send me some details about the project or problem and I'll let you know whether I can help.

Do you work on small projects as well as large developments?

Yes. Projects range from private homes and extensions through to commercial developments, listed buildings and larger construction projects.

How do I get started?

Get in touch with a brief description of your project, where it is and what you need help with. If you have drawings, photographs or specifications, these can also be useful.

Need help with your project?
